Japanese culture was heavily influenced by China, until they exercised a strict isolationist policy, during the Edo era, closing off all borders to the outside world. This made Japan start to develop its own distinct culture. After the fall of the Edo era Japan reopened its borders. This allowed them to start taking cultural ideas from all over the world. Japan was most heavily influenced by Western culture. The things the Western culture influenced included art, lifestyle, and food.
Japan, like America, celebrates a lot of holidays, one of which being a New Year’s celebration. This is the largest holiday in Japan. It is a dish that includes fresh fish, seaweed, and lightly-seasoned rice. The Japanese people also eat beef, poultry, and pork as part of their daily diets.
Housing in Japan includes modern and traditional styles. Two of the biggest styles of housing in Japan are the single-family detached house and the multiple-unit building. The multiple unit building is either owned by an individual or corporation and rented as apartments to people, or purchased by an occupant. More kinds of housing , especially for unmarried people, include boarding houses, dormitories, and barracks. A strange feature of Japanese housing is that the houses are thought to have a limited lifespan. They are generally torn down and rebuilt depending on type of house they are. Wooden houses get a twenty year life span and concrete buildings get a thirty year life
